We use full grain veg tanned leather in our padded leashes. Full grain leather is stiff when it is new because it isn’t as processed as softer leathers. It does need to be broken in just like a pair of high quality leather boots would. It is also a common type of leather used in horse tack because it ages better and lasts longer than softer leathers. A leather conditioner will speed up the break-in period, but it is not necessary.
