Each gear has many spokes sticking out from its center each with a rounded end. These tips can be used to slide into each other to connect the sides of the foot gears.

The center of each gear has a circular opening with ridges that allow the parts to be pushed into one another. This lets the toys be setup in a fun combination for birds to manipulate and take apart.
